Circa: 1920s Condition: Very Good Type: Set Manufacturer: Unknown
Delightful cut-steel half moon motif buckle and bow shaped shoe clip set. While it’s true that during the Victorian era cut-steel was considered proper for day wear and was used to make cloak clips, shoe buckles, brooches, and chatelaines; they were also being manufactured into the 1920s and 30s due to their popularity. These are the first shoe buckles I've seen in a bow, which look terrific on pumps by the way, and are one of the great motifs from the Art Deco period. Cut-steel is once again becoming fashionable. When I began my business over a decade ago, dealers couldn't give these away. Now days the prices on these pieces are high. The belt buckle measures 1-7/8 inch by 2-3/8 inch. The shoe clips are 1-5/8 inch wide.
Condition: There are two studs missing off the buckle. All pieces are the same coloring on the back, which my photo does not seem to indicate. |
