H. Pomerantz Inc. N.Y. Jelly Belly Bird Brooch This is an original Jelly Belly bird brooch (it came out of a personal collect of an antique jewelry collector) manufactured by H. Pomerantz probably in the late 30's. He measures just over 4-1/2 inches. With rhinestone plumage and a red eye this is a catch for anyone, serious collector as well as lover of the unique and hard to find costume jewelry. The Lucite stone body is slightly loss, but there is no chance of it falling out. This one is in excellent condition, showing the normal signs of wear. Even the pin is as straight as can be.

A little about the designer: Herman Pomerantz produced belt buckles, buttons, and jewelry from the 19th century, possibly as early as the 1890s. The company continued until 1960. He patented several designs during the 1930's, which is no doubt when this piece was made. In the 19th century H. Pomerantz seems to have limited production to belts, buckles, book chains and buttons. Pomerantz did make a great deal of very large Victorian Revival jewelry also during the 1930's. Jewelry with textured backs and Aurora Borealis rhinestones are dated from the 1960's. There are at least 4 signatures: "H. Pomerantz & Co. N.Y.," "H. Pomerantz Inc. N.Y. which is what is on this brooch," H. Pomerantz Co. and just "H. Pomerantz." Some try to date the jewelry by the signatures, but there seems to be no rhyme or reason to their use.

Trifari 'Alfred Philippe' Golden Peas in the Pod Pin The golden Pea in Pod collection is one of my favorites by Trifari. It is gold plated base metal with rhinestones and faux pearls. Designed by Alfred Philippe for Crown Trifari, if was featured in the summer 1960 Trifari catalogue. This pin is in very good condition, just needs a light cleaning. Book value $280.

B.S.K. Pin: Cat Tail and Grasses with Rhinestones B. Steinberg Kaslo manufactured costume jewelry in New York from the 1950's to the 1970's. There is an abundance on the market, some with intriguing work like this pin. It reminds me of cat tails and grasses blowing in the wind on the shores of Lake Michigan. A nice bargain here with book value of $35.

Art Glass and Rhinestone Brooch One of the best things about my job is that I am continually awed by new finds. Since it is not marked I feel it is American made with Czech or Italian glass. This is one of the most unique rhinestone pieces I've had; but there are similarly made pieces I've seen in reference guides that are attributed to Eisenberg. The center is a huge 1-5/8" faceted piece of art glass. It's clear with an emerald splash in the center. Elaborate prongs hold it to a ring of flashy rhinestones. The piece is in excellent condition other than some yellowed glue under the rim at the prongs (which appears to be added some time after manufacturing). This can be easily cleaned by lifting the prongs and brushing it out with a tooth brush. I brushed at the edges a little and it seems to come right off. This brooch is a keeper, and I find it hard to believe it isn't still part of a family inheritance. Their loss, your gain!

Fantastic Dominique Aurientis Leaf Cuff As is the case with Dominique Aurientis’ designs, this large cuff is done in her jewelry style of neo-classic. Large layered leaf motif is made to comfortably wrap the arm. This bracelet is a warm silver that gives the appearance of an aged patina. Measuring across the center it is 2-1/4". The opening is 1-1/4" but does give some. I have never been able to wear bangles because they don't fit my arm well (I don't have a round arm!). This piece is very comfortable, and I might add, very attractive. These are in such high demand; I am pleased to have found one for you.

Gorgeous Sherman Earrings with Choker What else would you expect from Sherman, other than gorgeous! These signed pair of Sherman earrings is out of this world. They have depth to the stones, and give a glow like fire opals. They are in un-used condition, and carry a book value of $135.

From the same high-end estate, the single row choker matches the screw back earrings perfectly. The stones are of superior quality with the same opal look. The length is 16-1/4 inches and is not marked. The choker is silver tone, were as the earrings are gold tone, but with all the shine it is only noticed when viewed from the back. Book value is $195.

Carl-Art Gold-Filled Pansy and Pearl Pin Carl-Art, Inc. started manufacturing its high quality silver, gold-filled and vermeil jewelry in 1938. This is a great example of their gold-filled work. Typical floral design of a pansy with high textured petals, accentuated with a center pearl. The back pin is bent a little, but is in good working order. The front is in excellent condition. There is a loop that would make it possible to use as a pendant as well.
