781-1

Victorian Scottish Agate Bracelet "Purist" collectors say that "real" Scottish agate jewelry is never hallmarked; hence, precise dating is difficult. After Queen Victoria purchased Balmoral, a castle in Scotland in 1848, Scottish motifs took on a revival from the Gothic period.

Bracelets are a scarce find in Scottish jewelry so I was thrilled to find this one. Set in unmarked sterling with a lovely engraved clasp and a safety chain, the stones are held with a chain link and sterling bobs in-between. There is one repair to the chain in which the bob is missing.

The agates mimic the clasp shape and measure 3/4" by 1/2 inch. Remarkably there is not a chip or crack in the bunch. There are two of the coveted blood stones present, making this bracelet a desirable collectors piece.

All my jewelry is vintage or antique previously worn jewelry for the most part. For this reason I try to include close-up photos for your examination, but please feel free to ask questions before you make your purchase.

Expandable Lion Bracelet with Stone Eyes and Mouth This is a wonderful expandable child's bracelet dating from the 1890-1910. It’s gold-filled over brass with a center lion motif which is in high demand because of their rarity. His eyes have red stones and mouth clear. At close look he even has whiskers. Book value $325.

780-1

Royal Blue Domed Glass Brooch with Bird Motif We're back from your trip to Europe with some lovely pieces. I knew this was special when I found it, but to be honest I can't find anything like it in any of my reference books other than a hand painted brooch on jet black glass.

This brooch is royal blue domed glass. There is wearing on the top, and when viewed with a loupe it hasn't seemed to affect the terrific bird scene. That being said, I am not sure if this piece is truly hand painted, or if the scene was part of the glass processing. I was attracted to it not just because of its blue coloring, but because I love jewelry with bird motifs.

Set in what looks like a gold frame with a textured rope twist edge that is hammered on and appears to be gold over brass. It has a C-catch. There are some digs in the frame work that is normal for a piece of this age. The pin is sharp, but has a waved shaft. This does not affect it use. Found in Hungary but has no hallmarks.

All my jewelry is vintage or antique previously worn jewelry for the most part. For this reason I try to include close-up photos for your examination, but please feel free to ask questions before you make your purchase.
