836-3

Mid-Victorian Saphiret Collar Pin This Art Nouveau collar pin was hand made from various metals including what looks like gold wash over brass, yellow gold, sterling, and rolled gold. The four stones are magnificent. There are two mother-of-pearl; one of which is milky in color and the other shows off much more pinks and blues. The two saphiret stones are the finest I have ever seen with a lot of blue. I have had a few saphiret pieces in the past and they are usually sold pretty fast, as they have become highly collectible.

Some background on saphiret glass: From the book "Baubles, Buttons and Beads - The Heritage of Bohemia" by Sibylle Jargstorf, page 139: "Although the original name, saphiret glass, has not survived the years, this was a very popular Gablonz bijouterie glass created in the 19th. century. Its' bi-colored appearance results from gold, which is added as an ingredient to a basic sapphire blue glass. In the second half of the 19th. century, there are references to saphiret glass which fetched higher prices then gold-ruby. It can be found in some of the finest Art Nouveau jewelry."

All my jewelry is vintage or antique previously worn jewelry for the most part. For this reason I try to include close-up photos for your examination, but please feel free to ask questions before you make your purchase.
