570-1
Bakelite People Pin with Moveable Joints The neat people pins that were created during the 1940's are now some of the most coveted Bakelite pieces. They don't show up nearly as much as other items, and are not always in the best condition when found.

This little guy, well I shouldn't say little as he is four inches in length, is in excellent condition. All the paint is in tact, his joints move as they are meant, and he swings on a wooden seat that hangs from a lovely formed carved trunk. Made of Bakelite and other plastics, wood and metal rings for the joints. The chain is made of plastic rings. He has such a happy face it reminds me of years gone by when children use to swing rather than sit in front of a computer for recreation. All he needs is a little cleaning. Book value $600.

All my jewelry is vintage or antique previously worn jewelry for the most part. For this reason I try to include close-up photos for your examination, but please feel free to ask questions before you make your purchase.

568-1
Elzac Lady with an Attitude Pin Elzac jewelry is fun to collect and it seems like you hardly see the same pin twice. No doubt because they were all hand made. This pin was probably one of the Victim of Fashion pins. It has a small pin hole on each side at the upper edge of the green and clear Lucite which may have originally held feathers or cloth. There is very little paint loss to this lady. As with all my pieces I leave the cleaning up to the new owner, and she looks like she needs to be cleaned up a bit.

Elzac Inc. Manufacturers produced novelty jewelry during World War II. Headquartered in Los Angeles with designer Elliot Handler at the helm, the company used innovative materials such as ceramic, Lucite, fur, feathers, cloth, and wood in unusual, whimsical ways. Elzac was founded in 1941 and achieved great success and popularity over the next several years, during a period when more conventional jewelry materials were in short supply. The popularity of Elzac's style of jewelry waned rapidly after the war, only to be revived again on today’s market.

599-1
Celluloid Hand with Red Nails and Jewelry This hand pin has lovely long figures with the nails painted red. There is no chipping; wish my nail polish would last so long! It's adorned with a ring and bracelet of metal and paste stones. The pin back is in perfect condition as well.

This early piece of celluloid is found in the reference books. Rather crudely made, I doubt the manufacturers ever dreamed these pins would be selling at the prices they do now.

336-26
Al Jolson Minstral Man Plastic Brooch I have seen black faced pins from Czechoslovakia. I did get this one in France, however, it is not marked Czech. Named after a Broadway performer of the 1920-30's, Al Jolson the Mintral Man, is this darling brooch with a lot of bright colors of molded plastic that make up the black baby and pineapple. It measures 3-1/2" x 2-3/4 inch. Book value $65.

543-1
H. Pomerantz Inc. N.Y. Jelly Belly Bird Brooch This is an original Jelly Belly bird brooch (it came out of a personal collect of an antique jewelry collector) manufactured by H. Pomerantz probably in the late 30's. He measures just over 4-1/2 inches. With rhinestone plumage and a red eye this is a catch for anyone, serious collector as well as lover of the unique and hard to find costume jewelry. The Lucite stone body is slightly loss, but there is no chance of it falling out. This one is in excellent condition, showing the normal signs of wear. Even the pin is as straight as can be.

A little about the designer: Herman Pomerantz produced belt buckles, buttons, and jewelry from the 19th century, possibly as early as the 1890s. The company continued until 1960. He patented several designs during the 1930's, which is no doubt when this piece was made. In the 19th century H. Pomerantz seems to have limited production to belts, buckles, book chains and buttons. Pomerantz did make a great deal of very large Victorian Revival jewelry also during the 1930's. Jewelry with textured backs and Aurora Borealis rhinestones are dated from the 1960's. There are at least 4 signatures: "H. Pomerantz & Co. N.Y.," "H. Pomerantz Inc. N.Y. which is what is on this brooch," H. Pomerantz Co. and just "H. Pomerantz." Some try to date the jewelry by the signatures, but there seems to be no rhyme or reason to their use.

308-6
Green Marbled Plastic Bobs This pair of bobs looks W. Germany, although they are not marked. The brass findings are very intricate with little flower motifs, and the marbled plastic is a two tone lime sherbet color. What is unusual is that the plastic is not uniform like molded beads. They are clips and hang 1-3/4 inch.

470-1
Early Pink Plastic Bobs I see why they called these earrings bobs. I couldn't get them to stay still to take a photo! These are 3-1/4 inches long and have a wonderful one inch molded pink plastic ball at the end. They are very light weight and in good condition. The plastic is molded and you can see the mold line in the center of each ball, plus there are a couple of air bubbles and abrasions from manufacturing that are noticed when magnified. These old timers are a fun pair of earrings for the girl who looks pretty in pink.

All my jewelry is vintage or antique previously worn jewelry for the most part. For this reason I try to include close-up photos for your examination, but please feel free to ask questions before you make your purchase.
